Arcadia This Week 8/28/2023

Good morning, Arcadia families, students, and friends!

It’s the last week of summer! I hope that, while it’s going to be a transition, you are looking forward to coming back to school next week! Arcadia’s dedicated educators have already been doing a lot to get ready, and we cannot wait to welcome you all back for the 2023-2024 school year!

Today’s newsletter includes:

  1. Goal Setting Conferences

  2. Opening Picnic Potluck (tomorrow, 5:30-7:30pm, at Arcadia)

  3. Lunch Update

  4. Drop off/Pick up routines

  5. Opening Days

  6. Upcoming Events

Goal Setting Conferences

Goal setting conferences this week are a great way to start making that transition back, allowing every student to communicate what they would like to get out of this year, along with lots of other useful information that helps us best support them. If you haven’t signed up yet, here are links to every advisor’s times. Please be sure to only sign up with your official advisor! You received an email from your advisor earlier this month. If you didn’t receive an email, please reply to this email (just to me) so I can have them resend that information!

Opening Picnic Potluck

Tomorrow night, August 29th, 5:30-7:30pm, we are having our opening picnic! Bring a dish to pass–or just yourself!–to the backyard at Arcadia! It’s a great time to ease yourself back into the school community with food, time to reconnect with friends, and the opportunity to get to know the staff at an informal gathering.

Lunch Update

The best laid plans…those who have been at Arcadia for a while know that Arcadia is not part of the federal school lunch program. When Minnesota passed free school lunches for all, Arcadia did not benefit from that. We were working on a plan to offer food to students anyway until we can join the federal school lunch program (which we are planning to do, unless we come up with a better solution). However, we learned last week that the Lunch Committee’s original plan for lunch this year will not work.

For the first week of school, we would ask that everyone bring their own lunch.

We are gathering more information, and I will send an update soon on what will happen after that! If you are not able to send a lunch with your child, please contact me immediately so that we can arrange something with you. We want to make sure that every child has access to food!

Transportation (Drop off/Pick up)

Please drop students off between 7:50am-8:02am! (8:50am-9:00am on Wednesdays!) We often have meetings in the morning, so we do not have supervision available until 7:50am.

At the end of the day, please pick your child up between 2:42pm-2:50pm. We also tend to have meetings right after school.

Remember to use the loading and unloading zone at the end of the sidewalk–NOT the crosswalk in front of the awning–when you are dropping your child off or picking your child up.

Please wait patiently and do not pass other vehicles to exit the drive unless guided by a staff member. This is for the safety of all of our students and families.

If you do need to pick your child up early to avoid the line at the end of the day (for an appointment or something similar), just let us know ahead of time. We can figure it out together!

Opening Days

We really can’t wait to see you!! Don’t forget to bring your school supplies, a water bottle (we have filtered water and a bottle filler at school), clothing you can move around in, and a lunch! The first four days include a mini civics class for which students receive credit, along with establishing routines and norms. They are very important days for our community!
