Arts Residency: Chris Koza

Yesterday was the first day of students working with Chris! We had instrumental and vocal music, dance, visual art, and poetry going–plus anything else students wished to add to the collection!

Chris’s website appears to be under construction, but here is a link to the “About” page, which still seems to be working! He can also be found on Spotify and YouTube.

ThanksGIVE Change

Usually, ThanksGIVE centers around an advisory competition. This year, we felt like there was a lot of catching up to do, and the advisories didn’t all have a chance to put together a performance or video. Instead of our annual ThanksGIVE fundraiser, we are going to do fundraising around the Chris Koza performance on April 22nd. Stay tuned, once again…

Arcadia Rubric–last chance!

The Board has nearly completed the Arcadia Rubric, a tool that will help us to measure our progress toward our mission and alignment with our vision. Students and families, if you would like to add any final input, please take a look and send me an email!

Here is a link to the latest draft of the Arcadia Rubric!

Strategic Planning and Contract Process

The Board is working on our strategic plan for the next five years! I hope you had the opportunity to fill out the parent survey.

The major theme that has emerged through this process is ensuring the sustainability of the institution. If you have any thoughts you would like to share, or additional feedback on the strategic planning process, please email it to me or our Board Chair, Melanie Cashin (mcashin@artech.k12.mn.us).

Northfield Public Schools, our Authorizer, visited March 31st as part of our contract process! Thank you to those who volunteered to join a panel! We will receive a written report, but the initial feedback was very positive!

District Advisory/Education Committee

Schools in Minnesota are required to provide an annual report to the State called the “World’s Best Workforce” report. Part of the requirement is to put together a District Advisory Committee that will review school-wide goals in a variety of predetermined categories. This committee should include families and students. If you would be willing to join the committee, we’d love your feedback! We currently have two of eight spots filled. To join, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084da5ad2da7f58-district

We will have our spring meeting online on April 7th at 7:00pm. The information for that meeting is below (it’s an open meeting).

Other Volunteer Opportunities

We would also appreciate help with lunch every day (the more adults in the room, the merrier!). Here is a signup for that: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084da5ad2da7f58-daily

On April 23rd, Arcadia is hosting a booth at the Home, Garden, and Consumer Show at the Dundas Dome. If you’re available, it would be wonderful to have some help covering the booth! Here is a link to signup for that: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084da5ad2da7f58-home

Student Intent to Return

All current students have a spot for next year automatically, but we are getting lots of applications, so to help us determine how many of those students may have a spot next year, we’d like you to let us know if you are planning to return or not. We hope you will all be coming back! :)

COVID Update

Three cases of COVID in the Arcadia community were reported in the last week. One of the people would have been able to spread the disease while in the community on or before 3/24/2022, and the other two would have been able to spread the disease while in the community on or before 3/30/2022. As usual, we cannot, for privacy reasons, share details about the people. At this time, they have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease.

We have worked to identify close contacts, and if you have not been notified, then your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.

If you are concerned, and would like your child to test, please contact Gail Setterstrom, our school nurse, or Laura Stelter (executive director) to schedule a CUE test. CUE tests are fast and accurate molecular tests. We complete these at school, and students’ results are immediately reported to us through an associated phone app.

We have BinaxNOW tests that can be completed at home without a device, and the BD Veritor tests, also rapid tests that can be completed at home, keeping in mind that the BD Veritor requires certain types of phones to be able to scan it. Here is a list of the devices that should work with the app and allow you to use the test: https://www.bdveritorathome.com/en-us/devices

Gertens Fundraiser–Ending April 7th!

Another reminder, we have until April 7th to sell plants! Send the information below to friends and relatives who may want to order! They will be asked to identify the “seller” at checkout, so it will be linked to you.

To access the site and place an order:

  1. Go to www.gertensfundraising.com

  2. Enter the Store ID code provided into the text field and click ‘Enter ID to Continue’.
