Mission Spotlight

It is the mission of Arcadia Charter School to prepare our students to transition intellectually, emotionally, and ethically to higher education, future employment, and engaged citizenship.

Arcadia Charter School envisions a supportive learning community that, through collaboration and student-driven, project-based learning, encourages and assists students to:

  • Express themselves creatively through the visual, literary, and performing arts.

  • Use technology with innovation, imagination, and responsibility.

  • Develop critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.

  • Construct knowledge and meaning for themselves.

  • Value, advocate, and strive for the wellness of the whole person.

  • Be empowered to act as local citizens within a rapidly changing global community.

We’re finishing up our VocalEssence: Witness arts residency on February 24th, and starting a new one February 25th with Rachel Ries! Arcadia students have lots of opportunities to “express themselves creatively through the visual, literary, and performing arts,” including these wonderful residencies--arranged by our Arts Coordinator, Bob Gregory-Bjorkland--with professional artists who enthusiastically share their knowledge, experience, and talents with our students, and involve them in the process of creating and fully participating in the arts.

For our upcoming residency with Rachel Ries, we are inviting the whole community to join this illuminating, dynamic learning experience.

Read more about our upcoming arts residency in the announcement from Bob below--and join in!

A note from your Arts Coordinator, Bob Gregory-Bjorklund:

Arcadia has a long tradition of hosting and creating arts residencies with artists from Dessa to the Guthrie to Joe Chvala and the Flying Foot Forum to Chris Koza and Rogue Valley to We Are the Willows. We've got another fun one coming up beginning this month. The Arcadia community is full of people who like to sing. The arts residency coming up that will give all of you--students, parents and staff--that opportunity. Our students will also be dancing, playing instruments and creating spoken word for a culminating performance on Friday evening, March 13. Read below for more information.

Arcadia Charter School welcomes Twin Cities-based singer/songwriter Rachel Ries and her critically acclaimed band, Her Crooked Heart, Feb 20-March 13th, 2020 for a series of workshops throughout the Northfield community, concluding in a performance at Arcadia alongside Arcadia school students on Friday, March 13th at 7:00pm.

As part of this month long residency, the band is seeking parents and community members interested in being part of a pop-up ‘rock and roll community choir’ to rehearse the evenings of Tuesday, February 25th and March 10th at 7-8:15 p.m. and join the band and Arcadia students on stage for their performance on March 13th.

This opportunity is open to singers of all skill levels. If you can match a pitch or carry a tune, you can join! Singers don’t have to be able to read music or have training. Songs are taught with the help of sheet music and reference recordings.

The goal of the choir is to nurture a welcoming, joyful environment where anyone who longs to sing in a choir again (or for the first time!) is welcome to take part. Voices are the original instrument and few things are more unifying than voices, raised together in song.

Help us make school more comfortable for students! Items we need:

If you have extra feminine supplies, or would be willing to purchase some for the school, we try to keep our bathrooms stocked, but are currently running low. Thin, absorbent pads (sample in link) and a range of tampons would be helpful!

Snacks to restock the Health Office and for during Homework Help would also be wonderful! Things like breakfast bars, granola bars, peanut butter crackers, dried fruits and trail mix can be stored from week to week, but are easy to hand to hungry students.

Kleenex and disinfecting wipes are particularly helpful right now, because it’s cold season, and we’re trying to prevent the spread of germs!
