Supporting Your Arcadia Student with the End of the Quarter Approaching

With the end of the quarter coming up on Nov. 1, now is the time to check your child’s grades and make sure they are on track! Have your child look at them with you.

Your child may need a nudge to advocate for themselves and their learning. That might look like going through each class to find any missing or incomplete work, and helping them make a list that they can use to make it up. You can also encourage them to talk to their teachers about any assignments that are missing--or need some work.

Also remind them that it’s not about the points, it’s about the learning! If they are too late to make something up, they can still check with their teacher to make sure they know the information that they were supposed to have learned through that assignment.

This is a link to the online portal for JMC, from which you can choose your role (Parents): https://arcadiacharterschool.onlinejmc.com/

Your username is your last name (or your child’s last name) and you can reset your password on that page if needed. If you need other help logging in, please email Laura at lstelter@arcadiacharterschool.org

To check grades, click on “Academics,” then “Progress Reports.” If you click on the blue “Qtr 1” link next to each class, you can see more detailed information, including specific assignments and assessments for that class.

Announcements

Thank you to those who helped with the new furniture!

Fifty-two new desks and chairs are ready to go! Thank you so much to Tom Powers (who stuck with it for the long haul--5.5 hours of desk assembly); Jennifer Hanson, Sarah Deel, Scott Grave, and Aaron Rothmeyer on the first shift; and to Greg Allen, Soren Powers, and Matthew Stelter, who joined us later to get everything finished up! Come check it out in the Lamarr Room during Presentation Night. Go Arcadia team!!

Announcement from the Northfield High School Speech Team:

The Northfield Raider SPEECH TEAM is gearing up for our 2020 season--AND ARCADIA STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN!

Speech is an incredibly diverse activity with something for everyone! While some of us give actual speeches (like informative or persuasive), others perform works of drama, humor, or poetry. Some team members compete in more debate-like categories, such as Discussion (this year's topic is "A Culture of Violence") or Extemporaneous Speaking (you have thirty minutes to research and craft a response to a question about a foreign or domestic current event). Some of us analyze and deliver Great Speeches; others tell classic folktales. Some members perform their own creative writing, while others read aloud from a published work of prose (this year, it will be from "All the Light We Cannot See").

Speech is a great way to make new friends, gain confidence and communication skills, and have fun! We practice after school from December or January (depending on your category) through mid-April, and compete most Saturdays during February and March, as well as a couple of afternoons/weeknights in March and April.

If Speech sounds like it might be a good fit for you, please attend our mandatory informational session for all interested NEW MEMBERS on Wednesday, November 13th, 2:55-3:45pm in Room S106 at Northfield High School.

Questions may be directed to Head Coach Saxton West (jsaxtonwest@northfieldschools.org) or Captains Brian Goodell, Grace Muth, and Ava O'Hara-Branter.
