Mission Spotlight: Presentation Night

It is the mission of Arcadia Charter School to prepare our students to transition intellectually, emotionally, and ethically to higher education, future employment, and engaged citizenship.

Arcadia Charter School envisions a supportive learning community that, through collaboration and student-driven, project-based learning, encourages and assists students to:

  • Express themselves creatively through the visual, literary, and performing arts.

  • Use technology with innovation, imagination, and responsibility.

  • Develop critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.

  • Construct knowledge and meaning for themselves.

  • Value, advocate, and strive for the wellness of the whole person.

  • Be empowered to act as local citizens within a rapidly changing global community.

Our first Presentation Night of the year is coming up soon, November 1st, at 6:30pm! As it says in our mission statement, project based learning is one way that we support students to “construct knowledge and meaning for themselves.” Students have the opportunity to identify topics and questions that they find interesting and explore those ideas with the support of their advisors, teachers, and peers. Each student creates some variety of visible product to share and presentations can take many different forms. Presentation Night (or Day) is a way for all of us--parents, staff, students, community members, and board members--to celebrate the work that students have done, while also giving them an authentic audience with whom to share their learning.

See you all at Arcadia November 1st at 6:30pm for our first quarter Presentation Night!

Supporting Your Arcadia Student with the End of the Quarter Approaching

With the end of the quarter coming up on Nov. 1, now is the time to check your child’s grades and make sure they are on track! Have your child look at them with you.

Your child may need a nudge to advocate for themselves and their learning. That might look like going through each class to find any missing or incomplete work, and helping them make a list that they can use to make it up. You can also encourage them to talk to their teachers about any assignments that are missing--or need some work.

Also remind them that it’s not about the points, it’s about the learning! If they are too late to make something up, they can still check with their teacher to make sure they know the information that they were supposed to have learned through that assignment.

This is a link to the online portal for JMC, from which you can choose your role (Parents): https://arcadiacharterschool.onlinejmc.com/

Your username is your last name (or your child’s last name) and you can reset your password on that page if needed. If you need other help logging in, please email Laura at lstelter@arcadiacharterschool.org

To check grades, click on “Academics,” then “Progress Reports.” If you click on the blue “Qtr 1” link next to each class, you can see more detailed information, including specific assignments and assessments for that class.

Announcements

Amazon Smile

If you shop at Amazon, an easy way to help Arcadia fundraise is to use http://smile.amazon.com. I have it bookmarked in my bookmark bar so that I don’t forget to use it if I’m going to shop on Amazon. On the page, under the search bar, it says “Supporting” in small letters. If you click there, you can choose to support Arcadia Charter School!

New Traffic Flow Update

Thank you for your patience as we figure out this new system! It’s been going pretty well! Please continue to drive in and stay to the left along the curb. That way, if there is a vehicle that needs to pass, we can see if the lane is clear and wave them through.

Arcadia Family Directory Reminder

We will publish an Arcadia Directory for families on November 1st. If you would like to opt out of having your contact information included in the directory, please opt out here:

https://forms.gle/zB6VvX7GqMYJJTgC7

You must complete the opt out form prior to November 1st if you do not want your information included in the directory.

Dungeons and Dragons--still looking for volunteers!

Parents, we have a number of middle school students excited about a Dungeons and Dragons club that one of their peers would like to get started. You may be just the Dungeon Master to help them out! If you choose to accept this quest (would be interested in supporting a new D&D club for the middle school), please email Laura at lstelter@arcadiacharterschool.org. If we have a few people able to do it, you wouldn’t need to be there every week, just occasionally.
