A message from Northfield High School:
The Northfield High School Raider SPEECH TEAM is gearing up for our 2019 season!
Speech is an incredibly diverse activity with something for everyone! While some of us give actual speeches (like informative or persuasive), others perform one-man or one-woman shows of drama, humor, or poetry. Some team members compete in more debate-like categories, such as Discussion (this year’s topic is “The Impact of Media and Popular Culture on Society”) or Extemporaneous Speaking (you have thirty minutes to craft a response to a question about a foreign or domestic current event). Some members perform their own creative writing, while others read aloud from a published work of prose (this year, it will be from Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder and Other Stories”).
Speech is a great way to make new friends, gain confidence and communication skills, and have fun! If Speech sounds like it is a good fit for you, here are two key dates:
*Weds., Nov. 14th: Veteran Speech Member session right after school (veteran members only, no newcomers)
*Weds., Nov. 28th: a no-strings-attached informational meeting for all who are interested in high school speech and have not participated before. You will learn about the 13 categories as well as how our season works and our schedule. Students must be available most Saturdays Feb. 2- March 16 to be eligible for the team. You can join our Schoology course (it is a course, not a group) using the access code ZS5ZT-RJT7R (schoology.com)
Questions may be directed to Head Coach Saxton West at firstname.lastname@example.org.
