July 26, 2017
Greetings, Arcadia Families and Friends!
I hope you are sharing a wonderful summer with family and friends and enjoying our (mostly) wonderful Minnesota weather. Here at Arcadia things are popping! Arcadia is once again hosting the Northfield Arts Guild’s (NAG’s) Young People’s Theatre (YPT) and this year NAG is also performing The Pirates of Penzance! Both the YPT and the ‘Pirates’ are directed by Arcadia’s own Arts Coordinator and middle school advisor, Bob Gregory-Bjorklund.
In addition to the theater programs, the building is getting a bit of a facelift including two new rooftop heat exchangers, a new canopy for the front entrance, repairs to the building foundation to prevent water seepage, electrical and alarm updates, and a repaired, newly painted parking lot!
Goal Setting Conferences:
IMPORTANT ENROLLMENT INFORMATION !!
(Details were mailed home on July 27 regarding your scheduled Goal-Setting Conference.)
You and your student are asked to attend a Goal-Setting Conference with your child’s advisor before school starts. Your exclusive conference slot is _____________________________.
Your advisory is: __________________________. Please contact Kim Hansen at the front desk if you need to reschedule your conference.
The goal setting conference is an important beginning to the school year. It provides an opportunity to share any hopes, concerns, and needs (social as well as educational), with your child’s advisor. If you have completed the enclosed enrollment forms, please bring them along to your conference.
Our New Lunch Caterer
Arcadia has contracted with Done Right Food (DRF) School & Event Catering for lunch and breakfast. DRF has provided school catering services since 2007. Although school catering is at the core of the business, DRF partners with Karet Enterprises, a company that includes a restaurant and special events catering. This partnership means food is prepared under the direction of executive chefs with extensive backgrounds in four and five star restaurants. DRF currently caters Prairie Creek Community School, and has earned their highest regard. We’re excited to provide a salad bar for our students as part of the lunch program. If you would like to visit the website, go to: www.donerightfood.com
If your child plans to eat breakfast or lunch during the first week of school, it is important that you fill out all lunch related forms in your packet and bring them with you to the goal setting conference.
Please fill out the application for lunch whether you are planning to participate in the lunch program or not. Several federal grants are available to schools based on the information provided on the form. We assure you all income-related data is strictly confidential.
A reminder to please be sure your child’s immunizations are up to date. You can ask your clinic to fax a copy of current immunization records to us at 507-663-8802. Please contact the school if you have any questions about immunizations.
PICNIC AT SPRING CREEK PARK
Bring a dish to pass and join us at Spring Creek Park (the Northfield Soccer Complex) on August 30 at 6:30 p.m. Meet new staff and old, reconnect with current students and meet those who are just joining us. Feel free to bring a Frisbee or soccer ball!
We truly wish we could keep all our amazing staff forever, but we know that’s not possible. This year middle school advisor and science teacher Dan Peace is moving on to explore new horizons, no doubt including growing and building incredible things. We will miss Dan’s great sense of humor, his commitment to our school, and his support for all of the students he has advised. Good luck, Dan!
Special education teacher Maria Musachio has retired after ten years at Arcadia, working with our special needs students. We will miss Maria’s bright smile and her calm, encouraging approach to working with staff and students. Maria is looking forward to a nice restful time in her garden and traveling to exotic places. She has offered to share her expertise as a substitute special education teacher this year, so hopefully we will still see her at school!
Fellow special education teacher Thomas Rotchadl has accepted a teaching position in Hawaii, where he recently moved with his wife and child. Although Thomas was only here for his first year of teaching, we know he has what it takes to make a big difference in his chosen field, and we wish him the best of luck.
Our paraprofessionals are also experiencing a bit of a change. Allie Peterson, Kelly Stadler, and Craig Hern are expanding their horizons; we wish them each the best of luck as they pursue their dreams!
We are pleased and excited to welcome our new Physics and Chemistry teacher and middle school advisor, Kimberly McMillan. Kimberly will be in the green advisory with Bob Gregory-Bjorklund. Purple Advisory will see the biggest changes. Visual Arts teacher and middle school advisor Sarah Wallis, a woman of many talents, will be joining our middle school special education faculty with Gary Braun. Kate Werner will be moving back to Purple as an advisor, along with our new visual arts teacher, Jill Luoma-Overstreet. Finally, former paraprofessional Amy Merritt is joining our High School special education staff. Find out more at the Goal-Setting Conferences!
It’s the Jesse James Days Parade!

Open House on Tuesday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Do you know someone who is considering attending Arcadia this year or next? If so, please encourage them to come to our Open House on August 16 to hear about the Arcadia Experience. Prospective students and their parents/guardians will have an opportunity to tour the space and ask questions of parents, teachers, and current students. We hope to see you there!
I look forward to greeting everyone at the Goal Setting Conference and sharing community at the Picnic on August 30th! Until then, enjoy this lovely weather!!
