What is Arcadia Charter School?
Arcadia is a free, public charter school open to all 6th-12th graders in the Northfield area.
Arcadia Charter School is a supportive environment for students who want more independence and more responsibility for their education– and for parents who want their kids to start learning independence and responsibility early so they can carry those skills into college and work. Those skills are hard and take time to learn, so we introduce them thoughtfully and gradually alongside traditional classes– starting in middle school with two hours each day of highly-structured, closely-supervised independent-project time and a public presentation each quarter– continuing through the high school years with fewer classes and more independent projects– and culminating in a capstone, 300-work-hour Senior Project.
Our students don’t start out able to write and present a well-researched, well-written paper, PowerPoint or science project– but they get the chance to practice over and over again and increase their skills steadily over time, until choosing a subject, finding mentors and resources, organizing ideas, writing proper citations and presenting in public become second nature.
